On November 16, 2023, a minor girl was playing in the backyard of her house in the afternoon in the village of Mahabatpur under Shamsherganj police station. At that time, a twenty-six-year-old neighbor named Yusuf Sheikh alias Apel lured the minor girl to a nearby mango orchard with the promise of food and subjected her to severe sexual abuse.

Based on the complaint of the victim's uncle, a case was filed at Shamsherganj Police Station under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, case number: 427/23, dated 16.11.2023. Sub-Inspector Hiranmoy Trivedi took charge of the investigation of the case. The main and sole accused in the incident, Yusuf Sheikh alias Apel, was arrested very quickly. Then, within a specified time, all the information and evidence was thoroughly collected and a flawless charge sheet was submitted to the court.

On 31.07.2025, Ld. 1st POCSO Court, Jangipur convicted the accused Yusuf Sheikh after the trial. He was sentenced to twenty years' rigorous imprisonment for violating Section 6 of the POCSO Act and seven years' rigorous imprisonment under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
